Edis
Turkish pop singer whose singles run R&B phrasing through light dance production, a fixture on Turkish radio since the mid-2010s.
Edis, full name Edis Görgülü, was born in London in 1990 to an Azerbaijani mother and a Turkish father who worked at BBC Radio; the family moved to İzmir when he was two. He took piano lessons from age four and later began singing, before studying at Galatasaray University's Communication Faculty and settling in Istanbul.
Before turning fully to music, Edis worked as an actor, appearing in the television series Dinle Sevgili (2011-12) and the film Hayatımın Rolü (2012); he later returned to acting in Alya (2023). A manager who heard him singing karaoke offered to help him make an album.
Through that manager he met producers including Kenan Doğulu, Ozan Çolakoğlu, and Soner Sarıkabadayı, and signed to PDND Müzik. His debut single, "Benim Ol," for which he wrote his own lyrics, was released in 2014 and reached number two on Türkçe Top 20.
Subsequent singles "Dudak" (2016) and "Çok Çok" (2017) also reached number two, followed by "Roman," a number-one hit. His debut album, Ân, was released in March 2018.
His music pairs R&B-inflected vocal phrasing with clean, radio-facing dance production, and he writes and co-writes much of his own material. He has recorded duets with other Turkish pop performers, has won several awards including a Turkey Music Award, and remains a regular presence on Turkish radio and streaming charts.
