Venezuelan singer-songwriter working in plainspoken, diaristic pop, and a Latin Grammy winner for Best New Artist.

Joaquina was born Joaquina Valentina Blavia Canabal in Venezuela on 2 July 2004, the daughter of Camila Canabal and Francisco Blavia. She moved to Miami with her family at the age of six and holds both Venezuelan and American citizenship.

She showed an interest in music early, studying piano, singing and guitar as a child. She was writing songs by the age of eight and had decided to become a singer-songwriter by twelve. At fifteen she recorded her first songs and began sharing them on streaming platforms, ahead of any formal release.

Joaquina writes in Spanish, often building songs from little more than her voice and an acoustic guitar, with lyrics that stay conversational and phrasing that follows speech rhythms rather than a fixed meter. At seventeen she was invited into the Art House Academy and Abbey Road Institute program by producer Julio Reyes Copello, signing her first record deal with Universal Music Latino, and she graduated from the program in October 2022.

Her recording career opened with the singles "Rabia" and "Freno" in 2022, followed by her debut EP, Los Mejores Años, in March 2023. She won the Latin Grammy for Best New Artist at the 24th Annual Latin Grammy Awards, and was also nominated for Best Singer-Songwriter Album, becoming the youngest artist nominated in that category. She has since worked as a fashion designer, collaborating with JCPenney on a back-to-school clothing line.
