3BallMTY
Monterrey trio who carried tribal guarachero out of local sneaker-and-pointy-boot dance halls and onto Latin radio with 'Intentalo'.
3BallMTY came together in Monterrey in 2009, when DJs Sergio Zavala and Alberto Presenda were joined by Erick Rincón, all still teenagers posting tribal guarachero tracks online after connecting through the internet. Their style pairs a fast triplet rhythm with cumbia and prehispanic-sounding flutes, and grew up alongside a dance scene identified by extremely elongated pointed boots.
Signed to Latin Power Music, a division of Universal, the trio released their debut album Intentalo in December 2011. Its title track, cut with América Sierra and El Bebeto, took the sound out of Monterrey clubs and onto Latin radio in 2011, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Latin Songs chart and winning the Latin Grammy for Best New Artist in 2012.
Further singles followed, including 'Quiero Bailar' with Becky G in 2013, which also appeared in the video game Need for Speed Rivals, plus a second album, Globall, released in 2014 with guests such as Belinda, Far East Movement and Becky G again.
Erick Rincón left the group in 2016 to pursue solo projects, and Zavala and Presenda have kept releasing music as 3BallMTY since, putting out singles such as 'Bailar Contigo,' featuring Chyno Miranda, that same year and 'Tequila,' with Chayin Rubio, in 2018.
