Fleshgod Apocalypse

2 festivals played

Italian death metal with a full orchestral apparatus and an operatic streak played completely straight — tuxedos, corpse paint, and blastbeats in formalwear.

Fleshgod Apocalypse formed in Perugia, Italy in 2007, built around Francesco Paoli, who began as the band's drummer and later moved to lead vocals and guitar. The group plays technical death metal layered with full orchestral arrangements and operatic soprano vocals, a combination handled with complete seriousness rather than as novelty. Classical training runs through the line-up, and the compositions borrow structural ideas from opera and Romantic orchestral music while keeping blastbeats and growled vocals at the centre. Onstage the band performs in formalwear and heavy makeup, presenting the whole thing as a piece of theatre.
