Ohtis is a band from Normal, Illinois, built around songwriter and singer Sam Swinson alongside Adam Pressley and Nate Hahn. The three have played together since their teens, though the project went dormant for years while Swinson dealt with addiction. Their 2019 album Curve of Earth drew on that period directly, pairing plainspoken accounts of drug use, evangelical upbringing and recovery with country and folk arrangements that stay gentle even when the lyrics do not. Swinson's flat, conversational delivery is central to the sound, with the songs' warmth coming from the harmonies and unhurried tempos rather than the subject matter.
