Flyleaf formed in Belton, Texas, and became one of the more widely heard alternative metal bands of the mid-2000s, built around Lacey Sturm's vocals, which move between a clear, exposed upper register and a full scream. Their songs pair heavy, downtuned guitar riffs with melodic choruses and lyrics that draw openly on Sturm's Christian faith and on personal struggle. "All Around Me" and "I'm So Sick" are among their best-known tracks. Sturm left the band in 2012 and pursued solo work and writing before returning to perform with Flyleaf again.
