Playing debut Count Your Blessings front to back for its 20th — a return to the feral deathcore they spent the next two decades outgrowing.

Bring Me the Horizon came together in Sheffield in March 2004, when its members were between fifteen and seventeen years old. Drummer Matt Nicholls and singer Oli Sykes shared an interest in American metalcore bands like Norma Jean, and later brought in guitarist Lee Malia, who came from a thrash and melodic death metal background and had played in a Metallica tribute band. The band's name comes from a line in the first Pirates of the Caribbean film.

Their 2006 debut, Count Your Blessings, is a deathcore record built around Sykes's screamed vocals and technical, breakdown-heavy guitar. 2008's Suicide Season marked a shift toward metalcore and is generally treated as the album that turned the band's fortunes around, while 2010's There Is a Hell... folded in classical, electronic and pop elements without abandoning the heavier core.

Keyboardist and producer Jordan Fish joined ahead of 2013's Sempiternal and became central to the band's move into arena-scaled alternative rock and pop-shaped electronic production, through albums including That's the Spirit, which reached number two in both the UK and US, and Amo, their first UK number one. Fish left the band in 2023.

Bring Me the Horizon have sold more than five million records, won seven Kerrang! Awards including two for Best British Band, a BRIT Award for Best Rock/Alternative Act, and picked up two Grammy nominations along the way. Singles including 'Throne', 'Mantra' and 'Kool-Aid' have topped the UK Rock & Metal Singles Chart, giving the band a mainstream audience well beyond the scene it started in, even as that crossover keeps it a point of argument within it.
