Noah Sebastian's project drifted from metalcore toward something moodier and far more electronic, and got much bigger for it — 'Just Pretend' made them the scene's biggest crossover story.

Bad Omens formed in Richmond, Virginia in 2015 around vocalist Noah Sebastian, who also handles much of the band's writing and production. Their early material sat squarely in metalcore, but subsequent records folded in industrial textures, synthesisers and cleaner, more atmospheric singing alongside the screams.

The 2022 album The Death of Peace of Mind marked their commercial breakthrough, with the title track and "Just Pretend" reaching audiences well beyond the metalcore scene, largely through streaming and social media. The current sound balances downtuned riffing and programmed electronics with pop-structured choruses, and the live show leans on heavy lighting and staging.
