Steve Angello
Swedish House Mafia's dark third — Size Records boss with the heaviest drop of the trio.
Steve Angello, born Steve Patrik Angello Josefsson Fragogiannis in Athens on 22 November 1982, is the son of a Greek father and Swedish mother, with a Romani grandfather on his mother's side. Raised in Ulriksdal, near Stockholm, with his brother Antoine, he started out as a scratch DJ at twelve, mixing hip-hop and breakbeats before moving into electronic music in his late teens.
He began producing under the alias Who's Who and worked closely with fellow Swede Sebastian Ingrosso under a string of joint names, releasing through labels including Subliminal, Cr2 and Refune and producing for Interscope. In 2003 he founded Size Records in Stockholm, issuing singles such as "Gypsy" and "Isabel" and, the following year, a remix of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)."
A 2006 alias with Axwell, first called Supermongo and then Supermode, produced the hit "Tell Me Why," a cover of Bronski Beat issued through Ministry of Sound's Data Records. His first major solo success followed in 2007 with production and songwriting credit on David Guetta's "Baby When the Light," and a remake of Robin S.'s "Show Me Love" with Laidback Luke topped the UK dance chart.
In late 2008, Angello, Axwell and Ingrosso formed Swedish House Mafia, after Eric Prydz turned down joining, saying he could not abide collaboration. The trio's run of singles and arena shows, including the 2010 debut album Until One, made them one of the most visible dance acts of the era, before an initial split and later reunion.
His own productions favor big-room and progressive house, marked by hard, percussive drops and lengthy build-ups. Alongside the collaborative work, he has released material that leans darker and more experimental, including a solo album, work that sits apart from the more anthemic material he made as part of Swedish House Mafia.
