Made 'Animals' at seventeen and has headlined main stages essentially ever since — Dutch progressive-house polish at maximum scale.

Martin Garrix, born Martijn Gerard Garritsen in Amstelveen to Gerard and Karin Garritsen, picked up the guitar at eight. After watching Tiësto perform at the 2004 Athens Olympics opening ceremony, he became fixated on Tiësto's track 'Traffic', downloaded the production software FL Studio, and began producing his own music.

He trained at the Herman Brood Academy, a production school in Utrecht, graduating in 2013. Early tracks such as 'BFAM', with Julian Jordan, and 'Just Some Loops', with TV Noise, preceded a remix of Enrique Iglesias's 'Tonight (I'm Loving You)' that caught the attention of Spinnin' Records, who signed him in 2012.

His instrumental 'Animals', released in 2013, became a hit across European clubs and charts, made him the youngest producer to reach number one on Beatport, and put him on DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list for the first time, entering at number 40. That same year, Scooter Braun Projects signed him as the company's first EDM client, alongside his existing deal with Spinnin'.

In 2016 Garrix left Spinnin' Records to found his own label, STMPD RCRDS, which releases his own work alongside records by other electronic artists, shortly before he signed with Sony Music. His productions range across big-room and progressive house, electro house and more melodic, vocal-led material made in collaboration with pop singers and other producers, including the singles 'Animals', 'In the Name of Love' and 'Scared to Be Lonely'. He has topped DJ Mag's reader poll five times, in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2024.
