Brazil's biggest electronic export and a central figure of the Brazilian bass sound — deep, slinky low end scaled up to global-main-stage size.

Alok Achkar Peres Petrillo was born on 26 August 1991 in Goiânia, in the state of Goiás. His parents, performing under the names Swarup and Ekanta, were part of Brazil's early psychedelic trance scene and helped establish one of the country's psytrance festivals. Alok and his twin brother, Bhaskar, learned to mix and produce in their father's studio.

At twelve, the brothers formed the psychedelic trance duo Logica, releasing music through Vagalume Records and Liquid Records. After Logica ended, Alok moved toward house music as a solo artist, releasing "We Are Underground" in 2013 and founding his own label, Up Club Records, in 2015 after European labels had turned his music down.

His profile grew after signing with Spinnin' Records in 2016 and releasing "Hear Me Now" with Bruno Martini and Zeeba later that year. The single reached the top of Brazilian charts and entered Spotify's global top 50, making Alok the first Brazilian artist to pass 100 million streams with a single track.

He works primarily in a style often labelled Brazilian bass, rolling, deep basslines under house-tempo arrangements, and has recorded pop-facing collaborations with international vocalists. In 2019 he founded the label Controversia and became a character in the mobile game Free Fire.

In 2023 Alok performed a free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro that drew an estimated one million people, and received Brazil's Grand Officer honour the same year. He remains among the most widely booked electronic acts from Brazil, performing regularly at large-scale events worldwide.
