The elder statesman of big-tent dance music — trance godfather turned arena-house fixture, still detonating 'The Business'-sized hooks three decades in.

Tijs Verwest, who records and performs as Tiësto, is a Dutch DJ and producer from Breda. He came up through the Netherlands' trance scene in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and records including "Adagio for Strings" and the mix series and albums of that period made him one of the most widely known DJs in the world. He performed at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

In the years since, Tiësto moved away from trance toward house and mainstream dance-pop, working with a long list of vocalists and scoring later hits such as "The Business." His sets remain built for large rooms and outdoor crowds, leaning on big drops and recognisable vocal hooks.
