Berlin's masked 'farmcore' phenomenon — giddy barnyard-trance house played dead serious, 'My Barn My Rules' as manifesto.

Horsegiirl is the project of a Berlin-based producer and DJ who performs in a horse mask and presents an elaborate "farmcore" persona, telling interviewers she comes from a barn rather than a city. The music draws on happy hardcore, trance, hyperpop and club house, with high tempos, bright synth leads and vocal hooks built around the character's rural mythology. "My Barn My Rules" is the best-known track and the phrase functions as a slogan for the project. The act is as much a comic performance as a dance one, though the productions themselves are played straight.
