Chicago house pedigree carried onto fashion-world stages — a DJ who plays for dancers, not the camera, with Grammy-winning production credits to match.
Honey Dijon, born Honey Redmond in 1968, grew up on Chicago's South Side in what she has called a middle-class, musical African-American family. She began going to clubs in her mid-teens, with her parents' approval so long as her grades held up, and later moved to New York in the late 1990s.
In Chicago she was mentored by DJs including Derrick Carter, Mark Farina and Greenskeepers. In New York she connected with Maxi Records and Danny Tenaglia, began DJing there in the 1990s and started producing around 2000. She now splits her time between New York and Berlin.
Her sets draw on Chicago house, disco, techno and vocal-led club records, built for the dancefloor rather than for show. She released her debut album, The Best of Both Worlds, in 2017, and has become a fixture soundtracking runway shows for Louis Vuitton and Dior.
She has soundtracked runway shows for Louis Vuitton and Dior, and in 2023 won a Grammy for Best Dance Album for her production work on Beyoncé's Renaissance. She also appears in the BBC documentary series Disco: Soundtrack of a Revolution.
Dijon is transgender and came out publicly shortly after moving to New York. She has spoken about trans visibility in interviews, including with Channel 4 in 2016, and led a roundtable on the topic at MoMA PS1 in 2017. In 2025 Charli XCX cited her as an influence while accepting a Brit Award.
