Al Jourgensen's industrial-metal war machine — sampled sermons, mechanised riffing, and four decades of pure spite, still grinding forward.

Ministry formed in Chicago in the early 1980s around Al Jourgensen, initially making synth-pop before shifting toward a harsher, guitar-driven industrial sound. Records including The Land of Rape and Honey, The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste and Psalm 69 established the template of distorted riffing, mechanical drum programming and heavily processed vocals layered with spoken-word samples, and helped bring industrial music to a wider rock audience.

Jourgensen has been the band's only constant member across many lineup changes, working with collaborators including the late Paul Barker and Mike Scaccia. Later albums have often taken explicit political aim at American administrations. Ministry has broken up and reformed more than once, and continues to record and tour.
