LA industrial-tinged nu metal, mechanical and cold in a way most of their late-'90s peers never managed — machine-press riffs, still grinding.
Spineshank formed in Los Angeles in 1996 and signed to Roadrunner Records, releasing Strictly Diesel in 1998, The Height of Callousness in 2000 and Self-Destructive Pattern in 2003. Their sound combined down-tuned nu-metal riffing with programming, samples and a clipped, mechanical rhythmic feel that owed as much to industrial metal as to the rap-inflected side of their peers. Vocalist Jonny Santos and guitarist Mike Sarkisyan were central to the writing. The band broke up in the mid-2000s and later reunited, resuming touring and recording.
