Drowning Pool formed in Dallas in 1996 and emerged with the nu-metal and alternative-metal wave of the early 2000s. Their debut album, fronted by vocalist Dave Williams, went platinum on the strength of "Bodies", a song whose shouted count-off became one of the most widely recognised hooks of the era. Williams died in 2002, and the band has continued with a succession of vocalists since.

Their material leans on downtuned riffs, blunt choruses and a hard-rock backbone, and the group has remained an active touring act for more than two decades.
