South Arcade
British band reviving 2000s alt-rock gloss with a genuinely modern pop sensibility — Y2K crunch, algorithm-era hooks.
South Arcade formed in 2021 while its members, Harmony Cavelle, Harry Winks, Ollie Green and Cody Jones, were at university in Guildford. The band later relocated to Cavelle's house in Oxford, where they played early gigs in a garage. They took their name from a sign at Oxford's Westgate shopping centre.
Their songs pair down-tuned guitar riffs and electronic textures with clean, pop-shaped melodies drawn from early-2000s alternative rock, pop-punk and nu-metal. Critics have compared the results to Pale Waves, Avril Lavigne and Bring Me the Horizon, a combination that has connected with the wider Y2K-nostalgia revival among younger listeners online.
The group built much of its early audience through social platforms, going viral on Instagram and TikTok for videos of their band practices, before moving into regular live work in the UK. At a 2024 appearance on BBC Radio 1's New Music Live, the band finished setting up seconds before being introduced, after realising a laptop holding their click track had not been connected.
Early singles including "Danger," "Silverlight," "Nepo Baby," "Riptide," "Stone Cold Summer" and "How 2 Get Away with Murder" built toward the six-track EP 2005, released in December 2024 and reviewed positively by Distorted Sound Magazine. "Danger" passed one million streams on Spotify, prompting the band's first headline tour.
In 2025 the band signed a publishing deal with Kobalt Music Group and a recording deal with Atlantic Records, releasing the single "Supermodels" and later "Drive Myself Home" during an American tour. They have since announced a follow-up EP, Play!
