Gauzy London dream-pop — midnight-drive music, synths blurred to streetlight smears, soft-focus songs that glow in the dark.

Night Tapes formed in South London when Estonian singer Iiris Vesik began sharing a house with English musicians Max Doohan and Sam Richards. Late-night jam sessions between the three gave the group both its sound and its name. Vesik had previously released a solo album on EMI in Estonia, Doohan had drummed in the band Another Sky, and Richards trained as a jazz guitarist.

The band's 2019 debut single, "Forever," and the EP that followed, Dream Forever in Glorious Stereo, became an underground hit during the pandemic and has since passed ten million streams. A second EP, Download Spirit, followed as the group built an audience independently.

They signed to Nettwerk Music Group in 2022 and played South by Southwest the following year. The Perfect Kindness EP arrived in 2023, led by the single "drifting," their biggest to date, with a fourth EP, assisted memories, released in 2024.

Their debut album, portals//polarities, came out through Nettwerk in September 2025. Much of it was written on tour and recorded in hotel rooms, incorporating field recordings made in Estonia, Mexico and Los Angeles. It was preceded by the singles "babygirl (like no1 else)," "pacifico," "helix," "storm" and "swordsman."
