Aliyah's Interlude
Turned the maximalist IT GIRL into a whole persona — brash, sample-hungry club-pop delivered with the confidence of someone who never doubted it would land.
Aliyah Bah was born on May 10, 2003, in Atlanta and raised in Fayetteville, Georgia, the daughter of Sierra Leonean immigrants who ran a clothing recycling business after moving to the United States. She began thrift shopping at fifteen and has said she was bullied for her clothing style in high school.
While a freshman at Georgia State University, she started posting get-ready-with-me videos on TikTok in 2020, building a following for a maximalist, cute-but-tough style mixing Harajuku and Y2K references that she named AliyahCore in late 2022. A viral tweet that November, showing her in a bikini with Moon Boots, spread the look further.
She modeled at Mowalola's show during London Fashion Week in February 2023 and at Dominnico's show in Barcelona that May, and appeared in Doja Cat's video for "Agora Hills" that September. Her self-released debut single, "It Girl", came out the same month and quickly soundtracked hundreds of thousands of TikTok videos.
Her tracks tend to be short, loud and built around chanted hooks, drawing on hyperpop, dance-pop and internet-native reference points. Follow-up singles "Fashion Icon" and "Love Me" arrived in 2024, alongside an acting debut on the FX series English Teacher and the single "Moodboard".
Her debut EP, Kuntology 101, was released in January 2026. That year she also joined the K-pop group Le Sserafim on "Saki", from their album Pureflow Pt. 1, contributing as a co-writer as well as featured vocalist.
