Dual-frontwoman indie rock that lovingly resurrects '90s alternative — big fuzzy hooks, deadpan cool, and twin guitar harmonies built for radio that no longer exists.

Momma is built around Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten, who began writing together as high school students at Viewpoint School in Los Angeles and later relocated to New York. The two share vocals and guitars, trading lead lines and singing in close harmony over distorted, mid-tempo arrangements that draw openly on 1990s American alternative rock.

The band signed to Polyvinyl after the label cold-emailed them, an unusual entry point for a group that had already been recording on its own. Their debut, Interloper, came out in 2018 on Danger Collective Records, followed two years later by Two of Me, a concept album about small-town life in an alternate reality, recorded during a college summer break.

Their albums have moved from lo-fi beginnings towards a cleaner, larger-sounding production, with Household Name, released in 2022 through Polyvinyl and Lucky Number, bringing them wider attention. The songs tend to pair loud guitars with flat, unshowy vocal delivery and hooks built for repetition.

In 2023 they opened a run of shows for Weezer, and their fourth album, Welcome to My Blue Sky, followed in 2025. That year they also opened dates on a tour by The Marías, extending a run of support slots alongside better-established acts.
