Florida indie rock built for festival fields — 'August' euphoria, surging choruses, and a live energy that outruns the recordings.

Flipturn started in Fernandina Beach, Florida in 2015, formed by high school seniors Dillon Basse, Tristan Duncan and Madeline Jarman. After finishing college at the University of Florida, the three brought in guitarist and synth player Mitch Fountain and drummer Devon VonBalson to round out the lineup.

The band gained early traction in 2018 with the EP Citrona and its single "August," building an audience through steady touring well before any full-length release.

Their sound favors reverb-heavy guitars, keyboard textures and drum patterns that build toward large, open choruses, with Dillon Basse's vocals carrying most of the melodic weight, moving between quiet, atmospheric verses and full-band climaxes.

Flipturn signed to Dualtone Records in June 2022 and released their debut album, Shadowglow, that August to positive reception, touring the US through late 2022 and into 2023 and following up with the Something More Tour in spring 2024 alongside Richy Mitch and the Coal Miners.

A second album, Burnout Days, followed in January 2025, preceded by the singles "Rodeo Clown," "Juno" and "Sunlight."
