Spoon

1 festival played

Austin's most consistent band — two decades of taut, groove-first indie rock with zero wasted notes.

Spoon formed in Austin, Texas in 1994 around singer and guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno, and have kept a remarkably steady course across a long run of albums. Their music is built on economy: dry, snapping drums, guitars used in short jabs rather than sustained chords, piano stabs, and arrangements where the space between the parts matters as much as the parts themselves.

Early records leaned on the angular post-punk of bands like Wire and the Pixies, while later work brought in soul and dance-punk rhythms, studio effects and looser production. Daniel's rasp and his habit of repeating a phrase until it turns into a hook are the constants. They are often cited as one of the more critically consistent American rock bands of their generation.
