Megan Moroney was born in Savannah, Georgia, on October 9, 1997, and raised in Douglasville with her two brothers, Connor and Brian, in a musical household where she learned piano as a child. At Robert S. Alexander High School she did cheerleading and musical theater, and at the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Kappa Delta, she switched her major from accounting to marketing, graduating in 2020 with a music-business certificate.

While at university she opened a show for Jon Langston and interned for Kristian Bush of Sugarland, a connection that led to early songwriting relationships once she moved to Nashville after graduation. Her first single, 'Wonder', came out in 2021, followed by the EP Pistol Made of Roses, whose track 'Hair Salon' brought her first notice; Bush went on to produce her breakthrough single.

She broke through in 2022 with 'Tennessee Orange', a song whose central conceit turned college football rivalry into a stand-in for romantic betrayal; it debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top 10 of the country airplay charts. The song's success brought a deal with Sony Music, and she was later moved to Columbia Records Nashville.

Her debut album Lucky followed in May 2023, reaching the Billboard 200's top 40 and later named Rolling Stone's best country album of the year. Am I Okay? arrived in July 2024, its singles 'Am I Okay?' and 'No Caller ID' both charting on the Hot 100. Her most recent album, Cloud 9, entered the Billboard 200 at number one in February 2026.

The writing tends toward wry, conversational detail about relationships, delivered in a light Southern drawl over arrangements that keep steel guitar and acoustic textures near the front. She writes and co-writes all of her own material, and has become one of the more prominent women on contemporary country radio.
