Sam Barber grew up in Frohna, a small town in southeast Missouri, and began drawing attention by posting videos of himself singing, first covers and then originals. His voice is a heavy, rasping baritone, usually set against sparse acoustic guitar, and his songs deal in plain-spoken accounts of work, faith and leaving home.
Among his better-known recordings are "Straight and Narrow" and "Indigo," a duet with Avery Anna.
