Russell Dickerson was born on May 7, 1987, in Union City, Tennessee, where he grew up with his sister Claire and began playing guitar at fifteen. He later earned a music degree from Belmont University in Nashville, signing with Creative Artists Agency in 2010 while he worked as a songwriter and performer in the city.

Before his breakthrough, Dickerson released the EP Die to Live Again in 2011 and spent several years opening for other acts, including David Nail, Canaan Smith, Thomas Rhett and Billy Currington. That road work built an audience for the pop-leaning country he was writing, well before radio caught up with him.

His music sits firmly on the pop side of contemporary country, with polished production, arena-scaled choruses and lyrics that lean heavily on romance and marriage. He first found a large audience with the single Yours, released independently before it became a country radio hit and the title track of his debut album; he made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 2016.

Blue Tacoma and Every Little Thing followed as further number-one singles, part of five chart-topping songs on Billboard's Country Airplay chart. Southern Symphony arrived in 2020, led by another number one in Love You Like I Used To, and the EP Three Months Two Streets Down followed in 2023.

Dickerson was raised in the Christian faith and remains a devout believer. He married Kailey Seymour on May 5, 2013, and the couple have two sons, born in 2020 and 2023.
