Unhinged Brooklyn art-rock — yelping, swaggering, and critically adored, like the Stones reassembled by art students mid-fever.

Geese formed in 2016 while its members were students at Brooklyn Friends School and Little Red School House, practising and recording in drummer Max Bassin's basement in Fort Greene. The first song they played together was a cover of Tame Impala's "Mind Mischief." The band's name comes from guitarist Emily Green's childhood nickname, "Goose."

They self-released a debut EP and the album A Beautiful Memory in 2018, then a second EP, Bottomless Pink Lagoon, in 2019; all three were later pulled from streaming. The band planned to split after high school graduation in 2020, but self-produced demos drew label interest, including from 4AD, Fat Possum and Sub Pop, before they signed with Partisan Records.

Projector was recorded in Bassin's basement between late 2019 and early 2020, mixed by producer Dan Carey, and released on Partisan in October 2021. Its debut single, "Disco," premiered on Apple Music that June.

3D Country arrived in June 2023, produced by James Ford, taking a looser, more expansive approach than Projector by folding country, gospel and classic rock into the band's post-punk foundation. Singles included "Cowboy Nudes," "3D Country," "Mysterious Love" and "I See Myself," with a companion EP, 4D Country, following in October. Guitarist Foster Hudson, a member since 2019, left that December to focus on his studies, and the band carried on as a quartet.

Winter's vocals, yelped, drawled and often theatrical, remain the group's most recognisable feature, set against tangled guitar interplay and shifting rhythms; the band cites the Velvet Underground, Television, the Strokes and Radiohead as touchstones. Winter released a solo album, Heavy Metal, in December 2024. Live performances, joined by keyboardist Sam Revaz, remain central to the band's reputation, where songs tend to stretch and unravel.
