Mother Mother
Vancouver's TikTok-resurrected art-rockers — quirky harmonies and a huge devoted crowd, a back catalog rediscovered by a generation that made it theirs.
Mother Mother formed in British Columbia in the mid-2000s around songwriter Ryan Guldemond, whose band pairs angular indie-rock arrangements with the interlocking three-part harmonies of Guldemond, his sister Molly, and Jasmin Parkin. Early records such as O My Heart and Eureka established the group's mix of nervy, tightly written pop songs and darker lyrical turns, and the band became a fixture of the Canadian alternative scene over subsequent albums.
A decade after its release, material from O My Heart — particularly "Hayloft" and "Verbatim" — found a large new audience online, which drew younger listeners to the back catalogue and expanded the band's touring reach well beyond Canada. Later releases have leaned further into pop production while keeping the vocal arrangements at the centre.
