Friko is a Chicago band led by Niko Kapetan and Bailey Minzenberger, whose music combines indie and art rock with elements of chamber pop and punk energy. Their songs frequently shift between quiet, piano- or acoustic-led passages and loud, densely arranged climaxes, with strings and layered vocals appearing alongside more conventional rock instrumentation. Kapetan's singing is unusually expressive and often pushed to its limits. The band emerged from Chicago's DIY scene and drew substantial critical attention with their debut album, which was praised for the scale of its arrangements and the intensity of its performances.
