Chicago's chamber-punk romantics — big feelings, bigger crescendos, and a debut that made half the indie press swoon.

Friko began in 2019 as a trio with Niko Kapetan, Bailey Minzenberger and Luke Stamos, all graduates of Evanston Township High School outside Chicago. They released a debut EP in 2020 and a follow-up, Whenever Forever, in 2022, building a following within Chicago's DIY scene before either record reached a wider audience.

In August 2023 the band signed to ATO Records and narrowed to the duo of Kapetan and Minzenberger. Their debut album, Where We've Been, Where We Go from Here, arrived in February 2024, shaped by influences the pair have named as MewithoutYou, Mitski and the Beach Boys.

The single "Get Numb To It!" was named Today's Top Tune by KCRW and highlighted by Pitchfork among new albums worth hearing, helping the record draw wide critical attention. Afterward the band grew into a quartet, adding guitarist Korgan Robb and bassist David Fuller alongside Kapetan and Minzenberger.

Friko's second album, Something Worth Waiting For, was recorded in Los Angeles with producer John Congleton and announced in February 2026 for release that April, marking the first record to feature the full four-piece line-up throughout.
