Greg Freeman
Burlington's cracked-country rocker — road-worn songs that lurch and soar, scuffed-up guitar poetry in the Lenderman school.
Greg Freeman grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, before relocating to Burlington, Vermont, where he now records and tours with a backing band. His songwriting sits in alternative country territory, built on plain, conversational vocals rather than any obvious performance.
The songs draw on country and folk shapes filtered through indie rock, with arrangements that stay loose and ragged rather than polished. Verses tend to start quiet and detailed, tracing small, specific images, before the band pushes into louder, more distorted passages by the song's end, giving the records a lurching, unresolved feel.
Freeman released his debut album, I Looked Out, in 2022 through the small label Bud Tapes. It gained listeners gradually enough that Transgressive Records' Canvasback Music imprint reissued it in 2024. A second album, Burnover, was announced in April 2025 and released that August.
