Nick Rattigan's bedroom recordings grew into something cinematic without losing the tape hiss — earnest, aching songs with the reverb turned all the way up.

Current Joys is the project of Nick Rattigan, who grew up in Nevada and later based himself in Los Angeles. It began as home recordings under the name Yawn, with the material characterised by tape hiss, drum machines, heavy reverb and plainly delivered vocals.

Rattigan is also half of the duo Surf Curse, in which he drums and sings. Later Current Joys releases have moved toward fuller arrangements and longer, more filmic pieces, and the project found a substantial audience online, with older songs circulating widely years after their release.
