The Hives

The Hives formed in Fagersta, Sweden, in 1993, and are fronted by Howlin' Pelle Almqvist. The band plays short, fast garage rock built on blunt riffs and abrupt endings, and became widely known in the early 2000s garage-rock revival on the strength of "Hate to Say I Told You So" and the compilation Your New Favourite Band.
Their presentation is as consistent as their sound: matching black-and-white stage outfits and a frontman who spends much of the set addressing the crowd between songs. The Hives have continued recording and touring since, and their reputation rests largely on the discipline and pacing of their live performances.
