Thumper
Two drummers, a wall of fuzz, and pop melodies buried somewhere inside it — Dublin's loudest good time.
Thumper formed in Dublin around songwriter Oisin Leahy Furlong, who expanded the project into a six-piece built for volume, with the rhythm section doubled up. Their debut album, Delusions of Grandeur, arrived in 2022 after years of singles and EPs put out through small Irish and Scottish labels.
The songs sit somewhere between garage rock and 1960s pop, with melodies pushed through distortion and layers of overdriven guitar. Furlong writes about self-mythologising and hometown boredom, often with a joke buried in it. The band earned its following mostly through playing live, and their shows tend to run louder and faster than the recordings.
