Wrote 'Only A Woman's Heart' and has spent thirty years since making quietly exacting songwriter records that never chase the moment.
Eleanor McEvoy trained as a violinist, studied music at Trinity College Dublin and spent four years playing in the RTÉ Concert Orchestra before leaving to work on her own songs. The track that made her name arrived on the 1992 compilation A Woman's Heart, which became an unusually large seller in Ireland, and her self-titled solo debut followed the year after.
Live she works mostly alone or in small settings, switching between guitar, violin and piano, with a light touch and a lot of space around the vocal. Her later records are followed closely by hi-fi listeners, since she records with an ear for how the results sound on good equipment, and she has released much of that work on her own label. She has also served as chair of the Irish Music Rights Organisation.
