The Mary Wallopers

1 festival played

Dundalk brothers dragging Irish ballads back to the pub they came from — rebel songs, filthy jokes and a rowdy band behind them.

The Mary Wallopers came out of Dundalk in County Louth, built around brothers Charles and Andrew Hendy with Sean McKenna. The Hendys had previously worked as the satirical rap act TPM, and the group's wider audience arrived during the 2020 lockdowns, when they broadcast living-room sessions online and picked up followers well outside Ireland.

The repertoire leans on the Irish ballad tradition, drinking songs, emigration songs and republican material, played on banjo, guitar and tin whistle with a full band pushing behind them. Their self-titled debut arrived in 2022, followed by Irish Rock n Roll in 2024. On stage the songs come interspersed with talk, much of it blunt about Irish politics and housing, and the band has been openly outspoken on Palestine.
