S.G. Goodman is a songwriter from western Kentucky, raised in a farming family near Hickman in the Mississippi River lowlands. Her debut album Old Time Feeling was produced by Jim James of My Morning Jacket, and she followed it with Teeth Marks and Planting by the Signs, records that pair rural Southern settings with an approach shaped as much by indie rock and punk as by country or folk.
Her voice is thin, high and distinctly accented, and her writing deals with class, faith, queerness and belonging in small-town Kentucky without softening any of it. Live, she works with a rock band and tends toward direct, unfussy arrangements.
