The Red Clay Strays came together in Mobile, Alabama in 2016, playing a mix of southern rock, country and soul with a heavy debt to gospel and rockabilly phrasing. Brandon Coleman's voice — big, quavering and closer to Elvis or a revival preacher than to contemporary Nashville — is the group's most recognisable feature.
Their debut album Moment of Truth arrived in 2022 and gained traction slowly, with 'Wondering Why' finding a much larger audience a year or so later. The follow-up, Made by These Moments, was produced by Dave Cobb. Onstage the band favours long, loose arrangements built on twin guitars and a steady, unhurried backbeat.
