Amigo the Devil is the project of Danny Kiranos, a singer and songwriter who performs largely with banjo and acoustic guitar. His songs sit in a tradition of murder ballads and Southern gothic storytelling, often narrated from the perspective of damaged or violent characters, though the writing tends toward dark comedy and empathy rather than shock. Live, he breaks up the material with extended, joking exchanges with the audience, which gives his shows a considerably lighter tone than the recordings suggest.
