Electric Six
Detroit's disco-rock absurdists, whose deadpan commitment to the bit has sustained twenty-odd albums — 'Danger! High Voltage' still combusting nightly.
Electric Six emerged from Detroit and is led by singer Dick Valentine, whose deadpan delivery anchors the band's mix of garage rock, disco and new wave. The songs are short, riff-driven and often deliberately ridiculous, with lyrics that treat absurd premises with complete seriousness.
The group broke through with "Danger! High Voltage" and "Gay Bar", both of which found a substantial audience in the UK. Since then Electric Six has maintained an unusually steady release schedule and a heavy touring routine, building a catalogue that runs to well over a dozen albums.
