Detroit post-hardcore that lurches between whisper and full collapse. Long-dormant and much-mythologized, so a Fest set is a genuine event.
Bear Vs. Shark formed in the Detroit area in 2001, playing a jagged, unpredictable strain of post-hardcore built on abrupt dynamic shifts, shouted and half-spoken vocals from Marc Paffi, and arrangements that rarely settle into conventional verse-chorus form. They released two albums, "Right Now, You're in the Best of Hands..." and "Terrorhawk", on Equal Vision before breaking up in 2005.
The records gained a considerable cult following after the split, and the band has since reunited intermittently for shows, which has kept their reputation running well ahead of the size of their catalogue.
