Craig Owens's theatrical post-hardcore, reunited — MySpace-era drama with real stakes, piano flourishes and that unmistakable swooping vocal intact.

Chiodos formed in Davison, Michigan, in 2001, while its members were still in high school, and became one of the more recognisable post-hardcore acts of the mid-2000s. They played early shows at the Flint Local 432, an all-ages venue in nearby Flint, and took their name from filmmakers Stephen, Charles and Edward Chiodo, the team behind Killer Klowns from Outer Space, having briefly billed themselves as the Chiodos Bros.

The band's music paired screamed and clean vocals with piano and keyboard parts, abrupt tempo changes and dramatic, theatrical arrangements, closer to the ornate end of screamo than to straightforward hardcore. Craig Owens's wide-ranging, often nasal vocal delivery was the group's most identifiable feature.

Chiodos released their debut, All's Well That Ends Well, through Equal Vision Records in 2005. Their second album, Bone Palace Ballet, followed in 2007 and debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Independent Albums chart, later picked up by Warner Bros. Records for a UK release in 2009.

Owens left the band in 2009, the same year Chiodos began work on Illuminaudio, released in 2010 with Brandon Bolmer on vocals and Tanner Wayne on drums as the only Chiodos album made without him. He returned several years later, along with original drummer Derrick Frost, for 2014's Devil, part of a broader cycle of departures and reunions across the group's history. Their earlier albums remain the touchstone for listeners who followed the scene during its peak years.
