Literary-concept screamo out of Raleigh — dual vocals, Poe-inspired storylines, and no interest whatsoever in restraint, beloved by everyone who owned a studded belt in 2008.

Alesana formed in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2004 and became part of the wave of post-hardcore and screamo bands that emerged through the mid-2000s American touring circuit. The group alternates screamed and clean vocals over busy guitar work, with arrangements that lean toward the dramatic rather than the stripped-back.

They are known in particular for an extended concept sequence, The Annabel Trilogy, whose narrative and gothic imagery draw on nineteenth-century literature, including Edgar Allan Poe. Their records were released through Fearless Records, and the band retains a following from the era of scene-oriented package tours.
