Hank, Pattie & the Current is a North Carolina bluegrass group led by banjo player Hank Smith and fiddler Pattie Hopkins Kinlaw. Both are experienced players on the state's acoustic scene, and the band uses a conventional string-band lineup while drawing melodic and harmonic ideas from soul, jazz and classical repertoire alongside traditional bluegrass material. Their sets mix originals with arrangements of songs from outside the genre, played with the interplay and instrumental trading common to bluegrass performance.
