Progressive bluegrass played by a band happy to jam a traditional tune well past its natural length — Grammy-winning chops, festival stamina.

The Infamous Stringdusters came together in 2006 around a Nashville circle of players, and have kept a stable lineup of Andy Hall on dobro, Chris Pandolfi on banjo, Andy Falco on guitar, Jeremy Garrett on fiddle and Travis Book on bass. They work from traditional bluegrass instrumentation and tight vocal harmony, but arrange in a looser, improvisational way, trading extended solos and building instrumentals that stretch well beyond the standard three minutes.

Their album Laws of Gravity won the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album, and the band has become a fixture of the string-band and jam circuit, where the format rewards their willingness to let a tune run.
