Holding Absence formed in Cardiff, Wales, in 2015, and are fronted by vocalist Lucas Woodland. Their records have been released through SharpTone.
The band works in a melodic strain of post-hardcore, with heavy, reverb-heavy guitars, slow builds and choruses pitched for maximum lift; Woodland tends to sing rather than scream, and the lyrics deal directly with grief, love and mental health. Their self-titled debut arrived in 2019, followed by The Greatest Mistake of My Life in 2021 and The Noble Art of Self Destruction in 2023.
