Post-hardcore's elder statesmen — heavy, literate, endlessly evolving, and never once coasting on the back catalog.
Thrice formed in Irvine, California, in 1998 around Dustin Kensrue and Teppei Teranishi on guitars and vocals with brothers Eddie and Riley Breckenridge on bass and drums. Early records leaned on technical, hardcore-derived riffing, and The Artist in the Ambulance brought them a wider audience in 2003.
From Vheissu onward the band moved steadily away from that template, taking in post-rock, electronics and blues, most deliberately on the four-EP set The Alchemy Index. Thrice went on hiatus in 2012 and returned in 2016, and has continued releasing albums with the same four-piece lineup that has held since the beginning.
