Cardiff-formed seven-piece who took the band name as their surnames, pairing frantic twee-punk with lyrics about heartbreak and football.
Los Campesinos! formed among students in Cardiff in 2006 and adopted the band name as a shared surname, with Gareth writing the lyrics and singing them in a voice closer to shouting than crooning. Early records set glockenspiel, violin and thrashed guitars against songs about breakups, and the band grew darker and more detailed as they went on. Football runs through the words often enough to be a recurring subject rather than a joke, and the band has released its later albums independently.
