Leeds lads making hardware-driven post-punk bangers about mundane dread — deadpan vocals over squelching synths, pitched somewhere between a big night out and an existential crisis.

Adult DVD are a six-piece from Leeds who came together in 2020, during the pandemic, a period that left its mark on a band whose whole purpose seems to be getting people back in a room together. They sit within the wider wave of guitar-and-electronics hybrids that came out of northern England in the early 2020s, and release their music through the American label Fat Possum.

Their songs run on drum machines and synthesisers rather than guitars, with vocals delivered half-sung, half-spoken in a flat, deadpan register. The rhythms are repetitive and electronic, built for movement, while the lyrics stay fixed on small, specific details of everyday British life rather than anything grander.

On stage the hardware is played live rather than simply triggered from a laptop, which gives the set an unpredictable, physical edge. The result is a live show built around energy and volume, closer to a big night out than a studio performance.
