Submotion Orchestra is a British group formed in Leeds, combining live instrumentation with production drawn from dubstep, dub and electronica. The lineup pairs a rhythm section, keys, horns and effects with the vocals of Ruby Wood, whose restrained delivery sits above heavy low-end and long, reverberant spaces. Their sound is generally slow-moving and atmospheric, closer to jazz and soul phrasing than to dancefloor tempos, and the group is known for reproducing studio-detailed electronic textures with a band on stage.
