Celeste is a British singer and songwriter raised in Brighton, born in Los Angeles to a Jamaican-American father and an English mother. She sings in a husky, low-register style that draws on classic soul and jazz balladry, usually arranged with piano, brass or strings rather than contemporary pop production.
She won the BRITs Rising Star award and topped the BBC Sound of 2020 poll, and her debut album followed in 2021. Her song "Hear My Voice", written for the film The Trial of the Chicago 7, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
